Frank A. Westburg, 86, passed away in Elgin on March 30, 2016. He was born on November 5, 1929 in Rochester, NY. Frank is the beloved husband of the late Margaret Westburg nee White and the late Carol Westburg nee Speier. Helen B. Ordon 80, of Skaneateles passed away peacefully at Van Duyn Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on March 29, 2016 due to complications of Alzheimer’s. Helen was born on May 15, 1935 in Auburn, NY to the late Joseph and Anne Rogalski. She graduated from Central High School, Auburn Community College and Upstate Medical College. She worked for Cayuga County Lab, Retired from Community General Hospital, then returned to work as a teacher’s aide at Drivers Middle School in Marcellus. She was an active member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, the Skaneateles Garden Club and the American Society of
Clinical Pathologists. Helen is survived by her husband of 39 years Thomas; children Gregg Ordon of Syracuse and Christina Ordon of Skaneateles; grandchildren April Ordon, Daniel and Wesley Templeton and sister Mary Czechowicz of Arizona. She was also predeceased by her siblings John Rogalski and Stella Fabin. There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Friday April 1st at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church at 10am. Calling hours will be held on Thursday March 31st from 4 to 7pm at Robert D. Gray Funeral Home Skaneateles. Helen will be buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery. with her family by her side. She was born in Skaneateles, NY on June 07, 1924. She graduated from Skaneateles High School, where she was a NYS tennis champion, and Central City Business Institute. In 2004, Florence retired from The Temple Society of Concord as Executive Secretary. She was previously employed by the Rosemond Gifford Charitable Corp. Throughout her life, Florence possessed the strength to acquire serenity to accept many personal, tragic, heartbreaking events that could not be changed; the courage to persevere and change those situations that she could and the wisdom to know the difference. Her entire world revolved around her two children and ten grandchildren, whereby she selflessly gave of herself to enrich their lives. Florence was predeceased by her husband Robert C. Toms Jr.; daughter, Sandra Gail Toms; grandson, Christopher Toms; sister, Dorothy Heffernan; brothers, Harold Tuck, William Tuck, Earl Tuck. Florence is survived by her son, Robert C. ERMA CALLENDER JERVA passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2016 with her 3 children and other
family members by her side. Born March 27, 1920 Erma regarded herself as a true native of Skaneateles as she was born on Austin Street in the village. She was a graduate of Skaneateles High School … the Class of 1937. She was a beautician and after her marriage operated the Finger Lakes Motel in Skaneateles with her husband, James W. Jerva, who died in 1991. She was a member of the Skaneateles Methodist Church and in the past served as a volunteer at Auburn Memorial Hospital and as a member of the Skaneateles Firemen’s Auxiliary. Erma was a Lioness member and at one time transcribed books into braille for the blind. She very much enjoyed her time as a member of the Skaneateles Senior Chorus and attending dinner meetings of the Sennett Seniors. Erma enjoyed doing daily crossword puzzles and reading not only because she enjoyed those activities but also specifically to maintain her mental sharpness. Bingo outings were also a regular part of her life right up to her final days. All who were privileged to have known Erma will remember her as a positive, optimistic woman of great religious faith who enjoyed and appreciated her many friends and acquaintances and who embraced her life to the fullest. She is survived by her sons David Jerva (Susan) of Sennett, Alan Jerva of Rochester, and daughter Diane Aldrich (James) of Syracuse … Grandchildren Laurie Walter (Ben), Brian Jerva (Anita), Michael Jerva (Nicole), Aaron and Rebecca Jerva, Daniel Aldrich (Stephanie), Derek Aldrich (Janet), Jeffrey Aldrich, Douglas Aldrich …Great Grandchildren Alec and Tessa Kovalczik, Alexandra and Shawn Aldrich, and Mia Jerva … her sister, Rowena Fisher of Skaneateles and nieces & nephew. Julia was born on April 21, 1926 in Richmond, Indiana to the Reverend David and Mary Ferguson. Julia was the first born daughter in more than three generations of Fergusons. Julia graduated from Muskingum College in 1948, with a degree in music, the same year she married Robert McClurg. Bob and Julia were married for 58 years and lived in and around the Syracuse area where they raised their three children; Scott, Mark and Marybeth. Julia enjoyed playing the piano and singing with the Park Central Presbyterian Church Choir for many years. Julia also was instrumental in creating and directing the first hand bell choir in the Syracuse area. Julia’s tireless efforts helped to launch the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, where she served on the Board of Directors.
Julia loved being surrounded by nature and watching the wildlife from her home in the woods. She enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing, golfing, gardening, camping and traveling worldwide. She was a volunteer with the Community Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer driver for FISH (Friends in Service Here). Julia and Bob loved spending endless hours with their children and grandchildren. A close family friend described Julia as “classy and sassy”. She had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include: Scott (Suzanne), Happy, Marybeth Charters (David). She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Ashley Hass (Zach), Lauren Sprague (Jamie), Sara McClurg, Colden McClurg (Kristine), Wesley McClurg (Emily), Ferguson McClurg, Kristen Charters, Megan Charters and 4 great grandsons; Hunter and Wesley Hass, Hodge McClurg and Jaxson Sprague. Julia was predeceased by her son Mark (Happy) in 1996 and her husband Bob in 2007. A celebration of Julia’s life will be scheduled at a future date. A native of Fairmount and the daughter of the late Frank and Emma Walter, she graduated from Solvay High School in 1951. Larona was active in the real estate business for several years. Full of life and love, Larona enjoyed her family and friends and always brought a smile to their faces with her infectious laugh.
Surviving are her children Donna Zubrowski of Brewster, MA; Kathleen Mangel of Hallstead, PA; Michael (Rhonda) O’Connor of Charleston, SC. Grandchildren Matthew, Kara and Stephanie Zubrowski; Michael Finnerty, Josh and Danielle Hobart; Mary Marissa and Emma Mangel; Paul and Andrew O’Connor; and 2 great granddaughters. Also brothers Richard (Jan) Walter of Crossville, TN and George (Patricia) Walter of Venice, FL; sisters Beverly Whelan of Camillus. Doyle Jr., 75, passed away Friday March 4, 2016 in Auburn surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Judith (Stovall), loving father of Patrick (Kathleen), Michael (Kelli) of Avon Lake, OH and Julie (Rich) Boedicker, he was the proud grandfather of Mary, Sean and Maggie Doyle; Austin, Brandon and Madison Doyle; and Neil and Ella Boedicker. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Mary Doyle of Alexandria, VA, several cousins and nephews, and many close friends. John and Judy were blessed with 51 years of marriage. They were wed August 22, 1964 in Starkville, Mississippi.
Born in Auburn, John was a resident of Melbourne, Florida and spent summers at Skaneateles Lake. He was predeceased by his parents John P. and Mary Carpenter Doyle of Auburn, and brother James C. Doyle of Alexandria, Virginia. He was corporate secretary, corporate council and assistant to president at Red Star at Red Star Express Lines prior to opening his own law practice in Auburn, NY. He was affiliated with Boyle & Anderson, P.C. at the end of his law career, until his retirement. John was a graduate of the first class of Mt. Carmel High School in Auburn and did his undergraduate work at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio where he was a member of the varsity basketball team. He earned an LL.B. degree from University at Buffalo Law School. A member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn and St. Mary’s Church in Rockledge, FL, he was also a member of the Cayuga County Bar Association, JFK Div. #1 Ancient Order of Hibernians, Knights of Columbus Council #207, and the Elks Lodge #474. John was a former member of Dutch Hollow Country Club and Highland Park Golf Club. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Tuesday, March 8th at Sacred Heart Church with the celebrant Fr. Born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, he came to the states in 1955.
Ko was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 545. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Skaneateles for many years. He is survived by his wife Johanna of 58 years and 5 children, Johannes (Kim), Linda Fey Smithler, Richard, Ronald (Heather), Michael (Carrie) and 10 grandchildren whom he loved very much and who all have fond memories of going with Opa in his R.V. on camping trips. He is also survived by 3 sisters. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 2pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Skaneateles.
