Joseph G. Canny Jr, 54, of Syracuse passed away Thursday January 28, 2016 at home.  Joe fought a long battle with cancer of almost twenty years. Never once did Joe complain about the cards he was dealt. Joe was known for his sense of humor and straight talk. He was born in Utica to the late Joseph and Suzanne Canny. He was a graduate of Skaneateles High School and Syracuse University.  He retired from the Post Standard in advertising and sales.  Joe was a devout Catholic and a Patriot. As lucky would have it, he was able to receive Holy Communion on the eve of his death from his brother Patrick.
Joe is survived by his children Devin Patrick and Mary Kate Canny; siblings: Cathleen (Robert) Varno, Bartle (Toni) Canny, Patrick (Nancy) Canny, Michael (Lisa) Canny. He also leaves behind the mother of his children Geraldine Canny, his uncle, and “Second Father”, Bart (Judy) Gorman and several nieces
and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to his caregivers these last months, Jamel Mack and Jahneria Mackey,
who treated Joe like family.
A Catholic Mass of burial will be offered for Joe at 10 a.m. Wednesday February 3 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Skaneateles. Private family burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Skaneateles.

Robert D. Gray, Jr.

On Tuesday, January 26th, Bob Gray, finished his final round of golf and entered God’s great Club House.  He played strong and courageous right through the final 18th hole. It was the best round of golf he ever played.  Bob’s great golf game started in Mottville, where he was born, and finished in Skaneateles, where Bob lived, loved and served.  Bob’s zest for life showed in his service to the community, dedication to his career, and his love for his family. He served from 1970-76 in the US Army Reserves and subsequently joined the Valentine Meyer Post 317 and the Robert Haydon Post 239.  He was an honorary member of the Skaneateles Fire Department, a life member of the Mons. Meany Knights of Columbus Council, and was past president and 25 year board member of the Lake View Cemetery Board.  He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church.
The career path Bob chose was well suited to his patience, gentlemanly nature, and his true sense of compassion.  He graduated from Simmons School of Embalming in 1968 and served on the Military Honor Guard in the Reserves while he worked as a funeral director in Skaneateles.  He established the Robert D. Gray Funeral Home in 1975 and the Gray House Bed & Breakfast in 1990.  He was a member and past president of the Onondaga-Oswego Funeral Directors Association.
Life was full for Bob; he played in the Joe Curtis Softball League well into his 60's, he enjoyed meeting the guys at the Wednesday Night bowling league in Marcellus, playing cards in the Amber Pitch League, walking down to breakfast at Johnny’s with the guys from Table 6; traveling with his family to many parts of the country and to Ireland and Scotland, and played golf with friends and family.  The game of golf gave Bob time to spend with his son, son-in-law, grandson, daughters and friends.  Family was central to all that Bob did in his life; and the focal point for the past 45 years was his wife Val.  Together they raised a family, operated a business and traveled extensively.
Their family includes 2 daughters: Pamela (Gary) Anastasio, Kristin Gray; son Rob (Leanne); his mother Mary Gray; his brother Thomas (Kathy); his sisters: Mary Ann (Rick) Barletta, Pat (Ted) Corwin, Joanne (Eric) Tills; grandchildren: Tyler & Laura Anastasio, Robby IV, Matthew, Connor; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by
his father Robert D. Gray Sr. in 1992.
The Gray family greatly appreciates all of the thoughts, prayers, cards and acts of kindness they have received over the
past 19 months.
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10am in St. Mary’s of the Lake Church.  Private burial will be in
St. Mary’s Cemetery, Skaneateles.
Calling hours are Friday from 2-8pm at Bob’s funeral home,
49 Jordan Street, Skaneateles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fr. Peter Major Mill Hill Missionaries - African Missions, c/o Mill Hill House 222 W. Hartsdale Avenue, Hartsdale, NY 10530-1667,  or Cancer Connects, 5008 Brittonfield Parkway, Suite 800,
