Vera Jane (Dye) Droppa, 86, formerly of Locust Ln, Skaneateles, NY went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the afternoon of March 31 in the presence of loved ones. She was a loving wife and mother. Predeceased by her husband Harold and survived by daughter Jean Keith (David Keith) and son Tim Droppa (Robin Droppa), 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was a born-again believer whose life served and blessed those who came within her influence. She will be greatly missed until our Lord comes gather His children for that “grand reunion” at His 2nd coming.

Margaret Mary (Conley) Jones, 94, Chaumont, NY passed away peacefully March 26, 2018. Born May 22,1923 in Rochester, NY, daughter of William D. and Kathryn E. (Birecree) Conley Sr.
A graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School and RIT, she worked in the nursing field after high school and retired from RIT after 25 years as Director of Campus Ministries. Margaret Mary enjoyed life to the fullest. Traveling with her husband Bill, her fondest memories were visiting with family on their travels and spending time with friends in Chaumont, NY and Hudson FL. Over the past ten years, while living in Skaneateles, NY, she became a fan of high school and college basketball, always ready at a moment’s notice to watch her grandchildren play. Margaret Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Filon (Bill) William Jones, III, brother William D. Conley, Jr., sister Rita C. McCarthy, nephew Rev. Patrick C. McCarthy, nieces Kathe (Conley) Bolling and Charlene Jones. Margaret Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mary-Kay and Carl F. Foehl, grandchildren Katie, Colin and Shannon, great-grandson Eric W. Burns Jr., sister-in-law Louise (Donovan) Jones and many nieces and nephews. After a courageous 12-year battle with sarcoidosis, Jane Eldredge (Wilson) Naas went home to Our Lord on March 21, 2018 with family at her bedside after receiving the Roman Catholic Sacrament of Last Rites. Throughout those years of sickness, she retained her loving and caring nature, her gracious, welcoming smile and her warm disposition.
Born in Washington, DC. on February 11, 1945 to Franklin and Marian (Eldredge) Wilson of Dayton, OH, she lived in Dayton, the Philippines; Atlanta, GA; Cincinnati, OH and Skaneateles, NY. Jane attended Patterson Cooperative High School in Dayton and Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Jane has an older sister, Martha (Marty) Wilson Dougherty, Lake Oswego, OR; and a younger brother Don Wilson, Littleton, CO. Jane married Robert Naas, also of Dayton, OH, in 1966 and has two sons, Aaron J. of Indianapolis, IN - wife Leigh Anne (Perkinson), and Daniel J. of Erlanger, KY – wife Rebecca (Lowry). Jane was employed in a number of positions including electronic component production for NCR and office management for Top’s Friendly Markets and several other companies. Her volunteer work over the years included Assistant Den Leader for the Cub Scouts and a food preparer for her Catholic parish funeral luncheons. Avocations included visiting grandchildren Nathan (deceased) and Joseph in Indianapolis, and Amelia and Caelen in Erlanger. She was an extraordinary seamstress, a very skillful and creative cook, and enjoyed photography, knitting, reading mystery novels, learning line-dance steps and playing pickle ball. A Requiem Mass was offered for her on Tuesday, March 27th at Saint Mary’s of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Skaneateles at 10 am., Fr. Richard Dunn, officiated. A light luncheon followed the Mass and Jane’s friends took the opportunity to write about their special memories of Jane. Alice Louise Swan, 89 of Camillus passed away on Monday, March 19 at Auburn Rehab Center. Born in Cortland to the late Alton and Gladys Bean on June 11, 1928. Alice was a graduate of Homer Central Schools and a Graduate of CCBI. After her school years she worked at many places in Syracuse, Edward Joy Company, Joseph Cashier, Excelsior Insurance Co, was a bookkeeper for 37 years for Edgewater Corp./Cedar House in Skaneateles. Alice was a member of the DAR, American Diabetes Association, St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church of Mottville and formerly United Methodist Church in Marcellus. She was a cancer survivor and a diabetic for many years.
Alice is predeceased by her 2 brothers Thomas and Edgar and a sister Nina DeJoy. She is survived by her daughter Susan Swan of Camillus, a brother John (Bonnie) Bean and many nieces and nephews. Known to her grandchildren as “Minah,” Nancy lived with her husband in Skaneateles. Everyone always looked forward to spending time with her at the lake. She was loved by so many and will be missed by even more. Her generous spirit, compassion and kind heart will be carried on in the lives that she touched. Nancy is survived by her husband, Robert Schattner, their children, Lynn (Anthony) Marinelli, Richard (Mary) Purcell, Steven Purcell, John (Helen) Purcell, Thomas (Joanne) Purcell, Susan (Ziva) Popov, Kathy (Frank) Kobuszewski, Robert Schattner, Michael (Martha) Schattner, Steven (Christine) Schattner and son-in-law Miles Merluzzi. She also leaves behind 33 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, Brother David Campbell and sister-in-law Suzanne Campbell and several nieces and nephews. Oscar George Simpson, age 82, formerly of Lakeview Circle, Skaneateles, NY, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on March 13. Oscar was born in Canandaigua on September 18, 1935. A graduate of Fayetteville High School and Syracuse University with a BS in Geology – nearly completing his masters.
He would have been commissioned 2nd Lieutenant US Army, Syracuse ROTC but for an unfortunate shortened broken leg disability. Oscar was fleet of foot becoming New York State Champion in track for Fayetteville High. He ran for SU, the quarter mile with the formed SU football star Jim Brown. Oscar belonged to Theta Chi Fraternity. Oscar was concerned with perfection and worked many years with the best craftsmen around Skaneateles. In spite of his university education, he preferred to work with his hands yet all the while soaking up all the knowledge he could find from the world’s great minds and ex founders of truth and goodness. On top of all was the Bible. People in Skaneateles will remember Oscar most for being a village philosopher, Christian evangelist soul winner and a man who studied law to the extent that he helped many be able to defend themselves in court. Oscar is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Simpson of Lakeview Circle, his wife, Theresa and infant daughter, Rebecca. He is survived by his older brother John, younger brother Alan (Evelyn), and many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial celebration of Oscar’s life held at St. James Church, Skaneateles on Wednesday, the 21st of March at 1:00 pm. Sandra “Sandy” Ann (Miles) Lupien, 57, of Red Creek, NY passed away. The daughter of Harold and Lena Miles, Sandy was born March 22, 1960. She graduated Skaneateles High School in 1979. Sandy was a nurses aid for 35 years, and retired from Cayuga County Nursing Home.
Sandy is survived her sisters, Barbara (Jim) Bennett and Debra (Steve) Smith, brother, Larry (Kit) Miles, and 20 in-laws and their families. She was an aunt to 29, a great aunt to 45 and great great aunt to 8 nieces and nephews. Sandy was survived by her husband of 28 years, Paul, three daughters, Amy (Donnie) Hamilton, Sara (Devan) Woodworth and Lora Lupien, two grandchildren, Tristyn Hamilton and Cassidy Woodworth, and lifelong friends; Rita Lupien, Connie and Marty, John and Lori, Dave and Cindy, Chuck and Lucy and Pat, Mark and Rob and their families. Sandy gave comfort to many people and their families at the end of their lives at work. At Home she gave great stability and much laughter to her family. The smile on her face showed her love for life and the need to “mother” all who entered our home. Always a “warm and fuzzy” feeling in her presence, she was a true angel of mercy. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to the family. Dorothy Schneider Lansbury 90, of Skaneateles passed away at home on Saturday, March 10th. She is predeceased by her loving husband Ken, Sr. in 2007. Dorothy is survived by her son Ken. A funeral service will be held on Thursday March 15th at 10am at Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, Skaneateles, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Skaneateles.

Born on April 5th, 1922 to Clayton and Velda Fiedler in Jersey Shore, PA, she was a Skaneateles area resident most of her life. On January 2nd, 1943, Florence married Army Major Charles Albert Wiley, to whom she remained married until his passing on June 22nd, 2015. “Fe” graduated from Skaneateles Central High School in 1942. Throughout her life she enjoyed archery, bowling, camping, tennis, and volunteering on behalf of the Skaneateles Methodist Church and Meals on Wheels. Everyone “Fe” met became her good friend. Florence is survived by a daughter, Carol Riels and her husband Ollie, of Spring City, TN; a son, Joseph Wiley and his wife Sherry, of Mottville, NY; and a daughter, Janice Wentworth and her husband Dale, of North Brookfield, MA. She is also survived by her sisters: Ann Simmons of Skaneateles, NY, and Ina Nolan, of Auburn, NY. Florence has four grandsons: Kent Koehn of Columbia, SC; Chris Koehn (deceased); Kelly Wiley and his wife Karen, of Onondaga, NY; and Peter Wiley, of Mottville, NY. Florence also has four great-grandchildren: Anaise, Taylor Ann, Kip, and Jimmy, one great-great-grandson, Max, several nieces, and a nephew. She will be greatly missed by (Scott Hauver and Nancy Hauver Morris whom were like grand children to her that she cared for many years while their parents Pete and Barb Hauver taught at Skaneateles High School.) Services are private. Florence will be buried in Lake View Cemetery, Skaneateles. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to SAVES or the Skaneateles Fire Department.
