As a young boy I was growing up on Jordan Street and lived next to John and Marty when they were first married. Always admired them. Marty was my daughter Beth's kindergarten teacher. My sympathy to Marty and the rest of the Manilla family

This gentleman of the highest integrity & character was an inspiration to me all of my life - from the time I met him as a Kindergartner as Jonny Vanilla to all of the previous Memorial Days as a fellow Legionaire when I could call him, Sir. A true representative of what Brokaw calls the "Greatest Generation", it is with melancholy sadness that we learn of his passing, but with joy in the ability to recall the best of memories in our relationship with him and the Manilla family.
