George Edward Joyce Jr, life-long resident of Skaneateles, NY passed away after succumbing to Cancer on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Hospice House in Sun City Center, FL. George was born in 1931 to George and Clarabel Vanamber Joyce. He attended Skaneateles Schools and is a Veteran of the US Army. He was a 25-year member of the Robert J Hydon Post of the American Legion in Skaneateles, NY. He worked as a landscaper and then for more than 40 years as a Machinist at LAB Corporation in Skaneateles, NY. In retirement he worked on the maintenance crew at Lakeview Cemetery in Skaneateles, NY. George was an avid hunter and fisher and his great passions were his loyal dogs and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Among those left to mourn his loss is his wife of 55 years Florence, his sons John (Brandy) Joyce of Marcellus, NY, George (Roberta) Joyce of Riverview, FL, his 3 nephews that he also considered as his sons: Ken (Hazel) Lee and James (Elaine Newkirk) Lee of Auburn, NY, Robert (Patty Villano) Lee of Phelps, NY, sister-in-law Emma Clark of Ocala, FL, brother-in-law Albert Jennings of Skaneateles Falls, NY, a cousin Sherry Turnbull of Liverpool, NY, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His sisters Dorothy Joyce and Margaret Lee predeceased him. A Graveside Military Service will be held in Lakeview Cemetery, Skaneateles, NY at 10:30am on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. I always loved to meet up with George and Tanner on our pup walks around Waterman School. He was a good man as proven by his love for animals. We will miss our friend greatly.

Mr. Joyce kindly treated me during the years that I worked at LAB as a teenager. He worked with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. A mechanical whiz, he took the time to explain things to me as a kid interested in how things worked and how to make things. His genuineness and expertise set an example that carried me into 22 years in the Navy, mostly in engineering. My condolences to his family and friends.

It seems so unfair that death should have the power to take away someone you love; and when it happens , the thought of never again being able to talk to, laugh with, or hold your love one can be most difficult to bear. That pain is not necessarily erased by being told that your love one is up in heaven. The bible, holds a out a much different hope. At Job 14:14,15, it says that the God of comfort Jehovah, yearns to bring back those who are in his memory and to see them alive on earth. I really hope this thought brings family and friends comfort.
