Gary Eugene Maurer, 77, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on May 6, 2024 at his home in North Carolina. He was the son of Marguerite Turner Maurer and Victor Eugene Maurer.
A Skaneateles native and 1965 high school graduate, Gary lettered in football, basketball, baseball and golf. He later went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina with a degree in accounting.  Upon graduation, he worked for Ernst and Young in public accounting and then transitioned into finance, heading up that function for Longley Jones Real Estate for a number of years. He subsequently relocated South and continued his financial career with several other businesses.
An avid golfer, Gary was a former member and board director at Skaneateles Country Club, where he was a former club champion and a New York State Amateur participant. He was active in CNY golf, serving as treasurer of the SDGA and tournament chair of the Bud Cooligan cancer tournament for several years. He was also an active supporter of the local SPCA.
Gary was predeceased by his father and mother. He is survived by his sister Gale (Lorne) Elder, Skaneateles, NY and brother Gregg Maurer, Sarasota, FL along with his two nephews Sean (Phoebe) Elder and Scott (Maureen)Elder and nieces Lindsay (David) Orzel and Carolyn (Michael) Callahan. Gary also leaves behind numerous cousins and life-long friends.
A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s of the Lake, Skaneateles on Monday, July 8th at 10am with a reception to follow the cemetery at the Parish Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gary's life and love of his dogs can be made to the local Syracuse SPCA.

Rest in Power, Gary. You will be remembered for your magnificent smile and fun loving spirit that you so easily extended to all of your sister’s Fredonia friends.

Dear Gale, I heard about your brother from Sil. I am so sorry for the sadness his passing leaves behind. I see that he graduated just a year behind Tom, so I assume the 2 of them yucked it up a bit in HS. May he rest in peace, and God Bless you and your family with His Peace.
