He also enjoyed visiting with his many friends at the Willow Glen Diner, the Skaneateles Post Office, and Kinney’s Drug Store.

Father McGrath was my principal when I taught Spanish at St. Mary's High School in Cortland, NY. Later he presided at the funeral of our beloved son, Robert at St. Mary of the Lake in Skaneateles, NY. He was always kind and funny at the same time. After moving to Virginia, I enjoyed visiting with him on our annual visits to Skaneateles. He will be missed! Carmen del Pilar Lancellotti

Father McGrath has been a huge part of our church family , from my Grama Catherine, to my uncles , my daughter Katie, and my mother Judith's passing to the weddings of ALL of us, he has always been there for us. I have such fond memories of him coming to my home to pray with Katie when she was sick. Our last conversation together he talked about my family and when I would enter his room he would call me "my Karen" . He was a true man of God and spread kindness wherever he was . He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace

Father Tom was a giant of a priest and to quote Chesterton" he was at his very best during the most difficult of times." May God bless him just half as much as he blessed us.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Father Tom. His unwavering dedication to his faith and his community has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His guidance and wisdom have touched our lives throughout his 65 years of service. May his soul find eternal peace in the embrace of the Lord, and may his memory continue to inspire us all. My condolences to all the McGraths during this time of mourning. He will be missed.

To Fr. Tom's Family:

Our condolences on your loss and the loss to all who knew him. Jim knew Fr. Tom from Fr. Tom's high school days when he and his group of CBA friends were dating a group of Convent School girls. Then years later when we moved to Rome, NY, Fr. Tom was our pastor. He was a great oratory speaker and his homilies were clear and to the point. No beating around the bush as to the deliverance and meaning of any subject from the altar.

As an amateur photographer, I, at his request, took pictures of his 25th Ordination Anniversary Mass at St. Mary's with 2 of his CBA buddies there: Fr. Chuck Fahey and Fr. Chuck Major. It was their 25th anniversary as well.

Rest in peace, Fr. Tom. You are now at the Home for which you were created.

Sincerely,
Jim & Theresa Dooher.and Family

I am so very sorry to hear of Fr. McGrath's passing. He was such a good friend and it was an honor to serve with him on Parish Council at St Mary;s of the Lake. I will always treasure our kidding and teasing about the Yankees and Red Sox, me being a faithful Red Sox fan! He was such a humble, kind, and gentle man and I will always be grateful for having known him.

I have known Father McGrath since January 2000, shortly after completion of the Holy Family Parish Center. He was central to that project in every way, and I believe central to the Funeral and Human Development ministries. My family is grateful to him, over and over, for his kindness and smiles at the mention of some of our younger generation. I hope he smiled for the older ones, too.

Fr. McGrath was Pastor at St. Paul's Norwich when I was growing up, he was also my Confirmation teacher in 1978 - one of my childhood memories of attending daily Mass during Lent at which a woman attended faithfully with her young child who was quite loud & disruptive throughout the Mass was when Fr. McGrath would enter the sacristry after Mass & say aloud for all to hear "THANKS BE TO GOD". My father & I would laugh all the way home. A wonderful priest and I am sorry to read of his passing. May he rest in peace.

Fr. McGrath was my principal and my history teacher at Rome Catholic High School in the 1970s, and I loved him! He loved history, and made it come alive. It didn’t matter if we were talking about Charlemagne or Constantinople or World War II; he had facility over it all. Throughout the many years since high school, I have frequently thought of Fr. McGrath fondly and thankfully. He instilled a love of learning that has carried me through life. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us. We are so grateful.

The Taylor family is saddened at the loss of Father McGrath. Like with so many others, he touched the lives of all of us. He came out of retirement in 2010 to preside at the funeral of our Mom, Ellen Taylor. Three years later he performed the Annointing of the Sick to our sister, Eileen, and presided at her funeral as well. Truly a devoted Man of God who inspired the best in all of us.

I first met Fr. McGrath when I taught at Rome Catholic High School (my alma mater) in the early 1970s, when Fr. McGrath was Principal. Years later, when I worked for the Diocese in the Religious Education Office, our paths crossed again. On one occasion, I was facilitating a retreat at Stella Maris Retreat Center in Skaneateles, and the priest who was scheduled to come to celebrate mass for us on Saturday night cancelled at the last minute.
I called Fr. Tom at St. Mary's (interrupting his dinner!), and he came right over to the retreat house to celebrate mass for us. I have never forgotten how quickly he responded and how gracious he was to those of us who participated. He was a good and kind man and a priest with the heart of Jesus. Thank you, Lord, for the gift of this priest. Fr. Tom, may you rest in peace and rise in glory!

Father McGrath was always there for our family, in good times and in bad. At the passing of our brother John, he just appeared at the kitchen table, a calming and loving presence. We are all thankful he was in our lives, leading, teaching, inspiring and caring for us.
