Deborah Lynn Magnotta, age 64, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2018 surrounded by family after a brave and courageous 10-month battle with cancer.   She was a warm, gentle soul and beautiful light of love to everyone she met.  She was born March 29, 1953 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Peg and George Beddoe. She was a 1971 graduate of West Scranton High School. Her passion in life was children and teaching them how to read was her gift. She earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Marywood College and her MS as a reading specialist from Kutztown University.  Debbie moved with her husband Vincent to Allentown, PA in 1976 where she stayed home to raise her children and later taught kindergarten at St. Thomas More School.  She prided herself in being a mother above anything else. She often said what gave her the most happiness in life was making homemade meals and surrounding herself with those she loved in her home.  In 2014, she moved with Vincent to Camillus, NY to be close to her daughter’s growing family.  While in Syracuse, she worked as a preschool teacher at Learn As You Grow and later Holy Family School.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Vincent; daughter Lauren LaGrow and son Zachary Magnotta. Mother-in-law to Joshua LaGrow, Nana to Grayson, Parker and Norah LaGrow; and in passing she is now with her son, Vincent Mark.  Sister to Cheryl George, Patricia Nicastro and Marion Iobst. Debbie was a gift from God shared with everyone she knew.
Her life will be celebrated in a mass at Holy Family Church, 130 Chapel Drive Syracuse, NY on February 10th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Vincent Mark and Deborah Magnotta Fitness and Wellness Scholarship”.  Debbie and her husband started this scholarship in 1999 after losing their son Vincent Mark to cancer at the age of 20.  This scholarship is awarded annually for students at Emmaus High School who exemplify outstanding character and make fitness and wellness a priority, which were important to Vinny and Debbie. Checks can be made out to East Penn School District Memorial Fund with a notation “Vincent Mark and Deborah Magnotta Fitness and Wellness Scholarship”. East Penn School District, 800 Pine Street, Emmaus, PA 18049.

We are so sorry for your loss. Debbie was such a beautiful person, a wonderful friend and neighbor. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone. Her daily “walk” with your large sheepdog always made me smile-you never knew who was walking who! We will never forget Debbie. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Our family is so sorry to hear of your loss. Debbie was our daughter Rachel's Kindergarten teacher at St. Thomas More, and was a constant support and blessing to us when Rachel unexpectedly took ill the Winter of that year. Her support during Rachel's illness was so very loving and uplifting. When Rachel died that June, Debbie came to our house with a dinner, painted our daughter Sadie's nails and let my husband and I go for a much needed walk around the block. I cannot tell your how much she meant to us. I know Rachel is so so happy to see her in heaven, as was Vincent Mark. We will keep you in prayer and love,
Linda, Bob, Sadie and Jacob Dallas

Dear Family,

Please accept our sincere sympathy for your loss. We can find much comfort in knowing that God's Word is truth. (John 17:17) It promises there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous right here on a cleansed, paradise earth. (John 5:28, 29; Psalms 37;9-11, 29) We know the scriptures are referring to the dead living on earth again because there has never been death in heaven. (Revelation 21:1-5)

I am so sorry about the loss of your loved one. The bible say, Jehovah God will provide comfort when loved ones die. Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 jw.org

Condolences to your family. One may think we will all be forced to confront death sooner or later. Its painful sting has caused many people to search for answers. Why did Jesus compare death to sleep? What can we learn from resurrections recorded in the Bible? Does death end it all?
Acts 24:15 says there will be a resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous. Can you imagine the joy of Martha and Mary when Jesus raised Lazarus back to life?—Read John 11:21-24, 38-44. Revelation 21:3,4 promises that one day death, mourning, and outcry will be no more.

Dear family of Debbie, Debbie was such a gentle soul. She truly treated children with care and compassion. I knew her as a Kindergarten teacher at STM where she was just so sweet to everyone. Her son, Zach, was a student there at that time and he is a wonderful tribute and legacy from Debbie. You must miss her very much. She was a ray of sunshine! My prayers and sympathy to you. all.
