Clark J. “CJ” Horan, Jr., 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Skaneateles on November 4, 2022. The son of Clark J. and Velma (Stewart) Horan, he was born on Easter Sunday April 8, 1928, and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1946. After attending LeMoyne College, CJ began his career in sales at the McMillan Book Company in Syracuse and remained with them through several mergers retiring after 40 years as Vice President National Sales.
CJ was a past member of the Skaneateles Country Club where he enjoyed golf, pitch and many hours of great conversation. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #239 in Skaneateles and proudly served as their Commander for 18 years. He was an avid reader of Irish history and enjoyed traveling, especially his 20 plus trips to Ireland.
Along with his parents, CJ was predeceased by his son Rev. Clark J. Horan III, his sister Mary Patricia Ziegler, and wives Joan Kelsey and Faith Edwards. He is survived by his wife Mary Burns Horan, daughters Aimee Fletcher (Bill Moore) and Martha Radford as well as his step-children John Ansteth (Andrea), Stephen Ansteth (Wendy) and Jennifer Ansteth. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Robert Ziegler, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10am, Monday, November 14th, at St. Mary of the Lake Church, 10 West Austin St., Skaneateles. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s or to Sons of the American Legion, 1 Wainwright Dr., Skaneateles, NY 13152.
