Ann was born on February 20th 1934 in Newark, NJ, to Johannes Metz and Margaret Mary Munch. Anne grew up in Fayetteville, NY, and graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1952. After high school, she attended Cortland State Teachers College where she received a degree in Elementary Education in 1957.
Her first elementary classroom was in San Leandro, California. She subsequently taught in elementary schools in New York, Illinois, New Jersey and Connecticut. She retired in 1999 after teaching several years in Danbury, CT.
Anne married James Breese McCormick in 1958 in Fayetteville, NY. They were happily married for 40 years and raised four sons together.
Ever the organizer, Anne founded the Dearborn Heights, MI, Newcomers Club and more recently was a founding member and President of the Association of Annual Ham Festivals and an active member of Fayetteville High School Alumni Association.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents Johann and Margaret Metz; mother, Louise Hamann Metz; and brother, Richard Metz.
Anne is survived by her sons Terence McCormick (Margaret Thill) of Alexandria, VA; Timothy (Cheryl) McCormick of Grand Ledge, MI; Theodore McCormick (Julianna Babics) of Raleigh, NC; Thomas (Carolyn) McCormick of Wilmington, NC; her grandchildren Brian (Rachael) McCormick, Kathleen (Alan) Foster, Shannon (Michael) Vickery, Christeen McCormick, Lorent McCormick. Ann is also survived by the grandchildren Sean McCormick, James McCormick, Luke McCormick and their mother LuAnn Garvey Nulsen. Additionally, Ann is survived by her three great-grandchildren and fifteen nieces and nephews and her sister Marguerite Halaburt of Ft. Worth, TX.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Ann’s Church, RR 38A, Owasco, NY 13021, at 12:30 p.m. on July 30th. The family will be greeting friends and relatives prior to the service at 11:30 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later date in Dewitt, NY.
