Mary Jayne Ashley Lipe of Skaneateles, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 9th.  Mary Jayne was born on May 6, 1952 in Mineloa, NY.  MJ, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, grew up on the North Shore of Long Island and spent the summers on the south end of Skaneateles Lake in the cottage built by her father, Tracy Ashley.  MJ became a resident of Skaneateles in the summer of 1980 where she stayed to raise her two surviving sons; James (Mackenzie) Goss of Fairport, NY and Chris (Palma) Goss of Baldwinsville, NY.  Grandma MJ will be missed dearly by her four beloved grandchildren; Brenna and J.R. (James) and Nora and Celia (Chris). She is also survived by her niece, Laura (Josh) Bowden of Simi Valley, CA.
MJ was predeceased by her parents Tracy and Mary Ashley, sister Hollis (D'Andrea), step-son Shane Lipe and the absolute love of her life, Darryl "Burt" Lipe, former owner of Morris’s Grill in Skaneateles.
MJ spent most of her professional career in the Auburn City and Cayuga County Court systems, a job she enjoyed until retiring to spend more time with her soulmate Burt. Whether on their boat or at the family’s cottage, MJ cherished being on Skaneateles Lake with Burt, their dog Shelby, and their countless friends. MJ also took great pride in having her sons’ friends spend time at their home and cottage making many lasting memories.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 15th from 4 to 6pm at Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, Skaneateles. Masks are required and limited entry into building at one time.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

I did not know MJ a long time but I always enjoyed her company. I always remember the get togethers at her home and the Halloween parties. She always made me feel so welcomed. Condolences to her family and many friends who knew and loved her. You are now with your soulmate. RIP.

We're greatly saddened by MJ's passing. We've lost a brilliant mind and a caring soul who readily opened her home to her son's many friends. We don't know how she did it. Those boys were filled with athletic energy and a passion for life. MJ, along with Burt, were the center of Skaneateles in many ways, and their contributions will be missed. Our thoughts are with the families. We wish you all well.

Dear Chris and MJ's family – Having known Burt Lipe since high school in Skaneateles, I was delighted when he and MJ got together. She was a loving, supportive and adventurous spouse and Burt loved her deeply. She was accommodating to his family and friends and couldn't have been a better partner! Her smile and enthusiasm will be missed but not forgotten.

So sorry, MJ was an amazing person, so kind and giving. MJ opened her heart and home to so many people (myself included). She was loved by all and she will be missed forever. MJ and Burt are having a glass of Carlo Rossi on their speed boat in heaven, reunited again with their teepee set up in the backyard. Love you guys.

I worked with MJ at the courthouse when she clerked for Judge Fandrich. We shared an office for a few months before she retired. Lovely lady. Had some good laughs. Very sorry for your loss.

I was so heartbroken to hear that Mary Jayne has passed on. Although we have not seen each other in several years, I will always remember her radiant smile, and bright personality that positively lit up the room. I carry wonderful memories of the family trips we shared together and reflect on them often. We will miss you, Mary Jayne. We know you have moved on to a better place and have been reunited with your love, Burt. Please look over and comfort those who mourn your loss so deeply.

I will always cherish our conversation that you and I shared on Facebook the day you were called home. Some of my best childhood memories include our beach house times. My mother always spoke so highly of you and the friendship and laughter that you shared. Rest in heaven friend❤️

My aunt Mary Jayne--I love her! She helped teach me how to waterski back in the 70's! She and Uncle Jim took me down to the boat house, where the boat was lifted with cables out of the water. The smell of the boathouse was of old wood, musty, and lake water--I can remember it as if it were yesterday. I don't remember if this was my first boat ride or not, but it's the first one I remember. The water was very blue-- and COLD! I could see the rock bottom. Jim asked me if I wanted to try waterskiing. Mary Jayne just smiled and encouraged me to try. They gave me two big skis (not sized for kids in those days!)... they were wooden. Jim pulled me up on my first try and the flat bottoms of the skis slapped against the surface of the water. This was exhilarating for a young boy like me who loved adventure, speed, and physical activities! After falling once, Mary Jayne was very complimentary of my efforts and encouraged me to keep trying. She said I was "better than most". Being my "pretty aunt" I wanted to continue to impress her so I skied multiple times that day--cold water or not! She was a wonderful aunt. Will hold this and many many fond memories of her forever.
