Katherine M. "Millie" (Lawton) Giess, 95, of Skaneateles, passed peacefully Tuesday, at Upstate Community Hospital in Syracuse. Born in Syracuse, NY, she spent her early years in Lakeland before graduating from Solvay High School and Syracuse University.
Millie spent her last 70 years in Skaneateles in the home her beloved John built. Her love of education led her to decades of teaching to include Skaneateles High School, Central High in Auburn, and Emily Howland Elementary School in Southern Cayuga.
Millie and the love of her life of 68 years, John, enjoyed many years of traveling in their motorhome and winters in Florida. Millie was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Mary's of the Lake Church Millie enjoyed many memories, special events and holidays with family and friends. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed playing tennis, working in her garden and bird watching.
Millie is survived by three children, Jacqueline Giess DeBagio of Auburn, NY, Penny McDonnell (Paul) of Parrish, FL, and Michael Giess (Christine) of Victor, NY; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Tyler, Dylan, Danielle, Jenna, Jacob and Collin. Her first great-grandchild Carter, is due in June. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Millie was predeceased by her husband, John, her sisters, Anne and Elizabeth and her brothers, Charles and James.
Calling hour will be held on Tuesday, June 7th from 10 to 11 am at Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, Skaneateles. Millie will be laid to rest beside John at St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Millie's extraordinary caregivers, Margaret Pritchard, Donna Vatter, Linda Moon and Lisa Oropallo and the staff on 3 West at Upstate Community Hospital.

I knew Millie Giess as Katherine Lawson on of my favorite teachers when I was a student at Skaneateles Central High school. Many of us could see how much she and John Giess loved each other even then!
I was so happy to learn that they had a long and loving marriage.

My deepest condolences go to Millie’s family. What a lovely lady. I had the honor of being Millie’s caregiver. I often told Millie I ( we) were part of her extended family. I will miss her laughing at my silly stores. Occasional, Millie would correct my grammar, then apologize. Always a teacher and loved her laughter. Millie loved to be pampered & found joy in her weekly colorful manicure. My heart is broken by the loss of a beautiful lady. Knowing she will now be with her beloved John makes me happy. Live on my sweet Millie.

I babysat for her kids for many years. She and her husband were so nice and the kids were great.

How many testimonies do you need to read before you can contact the spiritualist to help you with the problem you are facing that makes life look choked and undeserving? Are you passing through pregnancy problems? Or maybe you want to get back your ex lover or get a big promotion in your office? I only needed to see Dr ANOKOKUDO to help me with my pregnancy problems and my help came to me. I promised if I got pregnant that I would also come online to share my experience with the world so others who are facing similar situations will get to know that there is a solution to every situation. My name is Millie Watson and I am from Arizona, USA. If you have been reading all I have said, I just want to thank Dr Anokokudo for helping me after 8 years of infertility since I got married in 2014. I gave birth to a wonderful baby boy on Dec 5 2022 and I will share this testimony of his work in my life to anywhere help is needed. You can contact Dr Anokokudo with his email [email protected] to help you with any problem you are facing and I promise you will be happy to also help others. Thank you extremely once again sir
