F. George Dowling, 91, of Skaneateles passed away on Saturday February 6th. George attended Octagon School and was a Skaneateles High School graduate in 1942. George was a farmer and was an employee of Skaneateles Central Schools. He lived in Borodino for the last 20 years. George is survived by his lovey wife Kathryn of nearly 60 years and many nieces and nephews. Services are Private. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. James Episcopal Church of Skaneateles, Skaneateles Historical Society, Borodino Fire Department or to The Skaneateles Library.

George was such a gentle man and the best of neighbors. He made friends wherever he went and kept them for a lifetime. He will always be remembered.

Condolences, Kay. I never visit Skaneateles and drive on West Lake Road without thinking of George. He was the last of the wonderful Dowling family all of whom were good neighbors to my family. I think my mother was his teacher at the Octagon. Sincere sympathies.

My childhood memories of George are his soft and gentle ways, even spoiling me. When I visited him last summer from Ariz., we talked about farming, the old days spending time on Rose Hill with my Dad,and just laughing together. He was an important person in my life. Dear Kay; I have such fond memories of helping on the farm with George & Fred way back when. What I reflect on most are the summer time lunches at your kitchen table and your infectious laugh and great ice tea. I'll keep both of you in my prayers.

Dear Dowling family,
My sincere condolences to your family. Life never prepares us for such loss! The Bible promises that the God of all comfort Jehovah will soon swallow the sting of death forever! It also says that in the near future we will be reunited with our loved ones on a peaceful earth, Revelation 21:3,4. I hope thought brings some comfort during this difficult time.

My Uncle George was the greatest Icon in my life, from summers where I was too young to work with him on the farm to much later. Absolutely the kindest and gentlest man I have ever known. I always thought he was the greatest and wanted to grow up just like him. His tolerance exceeded most men I know today. Even his jokes were well repeated. He sure could work hard..whew!
