Bette was born on April 29, 1917 in Troy, NY. She spent most summers of her adult life at her cottage on Skaneateles Lake, NY. She has been a Skaneateles Village resident since 1963 and taught English at Skaneateles High School from 1963 to 1980.
Bette's husband, William Erskine Allis was deceased in 1951, leaving Bette sole supporter of her children. She had achieved a B.S. degree from Syracuse University in 1940 and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority affiliation. She took those honors a step further in 1962 upon the completion of her M.A. degree from Adelphi University. As well as her scholarly pursuits, Bette was an accomplished artist. Her home is adorned with her oil paintings depicting her love of Skaneateles Lake life and the beauty of nature. Bette is a member of the First Baptist Church of Skaneateles, NY.
Bette has been pre-deceased by her siblings: Jeanette Massie, Margretta Diehm, Robson Massie and Bill Massie.
Calling hours will be held at Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, Skaneateles on Sunday, May 15th from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service to follow officiated by Hal Jensen, a long-time family friend and minister.
